| Buying and Selling Equipment | January 31, 2012

Stainless steel tanks have a variety of uses. One of the main uses of stainless steel tanks for the application of our business is Food Processing. There are many different types storage mediums available for commercial food storage, and stainless steel tanks are the leader and most often used.

Why are stainless steel tanks so popular? There are many reasons.

  1. They don’t make food taste bad. Unlike plastic tanks, these tanks will not put a smell or taste into your food, or liquids.
  2. They will not rust.
  3. They will last a long time. Stainless Steel Tanks are more durable and last longer than fiberglass, steel, and plastic counterparts.
  4. They have better resale value than carbon steel or other types of tanks.

These are just a few examples on why stainless steel tanks are the popular choice for food storage.

We recently acquired a 8000 Gallon Stainless Steel mix tank that was used in food processing. This tank is set up with a mixer, with four blades attached. The blades are at the end of the drive shaft which runs down the center of the tank. This tanks motor sits on the top of the open top tank on a horizontal bar.

A nice feature of this stainless steel tank is that it has a digital read out of it’s current capacity, this allows you to see how much room you may have in the tank.

Here are additional features of this tank

  1. Slope to drain
  2. Digital read out of current capacity
  3. Dimensions are roughly 15′ tall and just under 10′ in diameter.
  4. Was used to store milk of magnesia.
  5. Open top with attached mixer, driveshaft, and blades.
  6. Heating capabilities.

Tips when buying or selling used equipment

| Buying and Selling Equipment | October 18, 2011

When selling food processing equipment, it is important to have a checklist to go through. This protects you from problems that may arise, especially from large ticket item purchases.

  1. Always be sure payment has cleared before releasing shipment.
  2. Be sure to let the buyer know which party is responsible for shipping, before coming to any major agreements
  3. Always notify the buyer, or place a note in the ad, if you are unable to load the item. Many buyers will assume the purchase price includes loading it on to a truck. Be sure you have the equipment and training necessary to safely perform this task.
  4. Once the equipment is loaded on to the truck, take a photo of it and email it to the buyer. This should help release your liability for the item if it is damaged during shipment.
  5. Verify the equipment has arrived
When buying food processing equipment, take the following steps to protect yourself, and make the transaction easy.
  1. Do not expect the seller to ship the item before payment has cleared. There are too many scams online that do this.
  2. If you do not trust the seller, try using an escrow service, or ask the seller for references.
  3. When possible, personally inspect the item to be sure it is in good condition. Ask the seller to photograph any major damages. Check for cracks, and ask the seller to test the equipment.
  4. Remember, usually, all equipment is sold as is. If a problem arises, foodprocessingandequipment.com has no liability and can not take responsibility for lost or damaged items.
  5. Be sure you know if the seller is able to load the equipment on to a truck and secure it.
  6. Make sure the shipping carrier is licensed and insured, in case something happens to the equipment
